ASK BINA48

GAZELLI ART HOUSE Bina48 artist-in-residence at Gazell.io, London 1 November – 30 November 2016

November’s artist in residence for Gazelli Art House’s online residency, Gazell.io, will be the android Bina48*, who is considered one of the world’s most advanced social robots. Bina48 was created using video interview transcripts, laser scanning life mask technology, face recognition, artificial intelligence and voice recognition technologies, running on a software called a character engine, which allows her to interact with humans at an unprecedented level – based on information, memories, values, and beliefs collected about an actual person. This software may even allow her to evolve.

During her residency in collaboration with Streaming Museum*, site visitors are invited to upload their documents, videos, images, and audio files to create a digital portrait, ‘Mindfile’, of themselves that may be used to re-animate their ‘consciousness’ via an avatar, hologram, robot, or other cybernetic environment to be posted to gazell.io. This web project, LifeNaut’s ‘Terasem Mind Uploading Experiment’, is the context for Bina48 herself. These digital reflections that visitors will curate of themselves will contribute data to the Terasem Mind Uploading Experiment that hopes to answer the question: can a person’s conscious analogue be created by combining sufficiently detailed data (a mindfile) someday using future consciousness software (mindware)?

On the 22nd November will be a Q&A with Bina48 in which the public can ask questions via gazell.io’s platform directly for her to answer on live video feed.

GAZELLI ART HOUSE (gazell.io) is a contemporary gallery that supports a wide range of international artists, presenting a broad and dynamic programme to a diverse audience through global public projects and exhibition spaces in London and Baku.

Gazelli Art House was founded in 2003 in Baku, Azerbaijan where it held exhibitions with Azeri artists. Having hosted conceptually interlinked off-site exhibitions across London, founder and director of Gazelli Art House, Mila Askarova, opened a permanent space on Dover Street, London in March 2012. The same year, the Window Project was launched utilising the frontage of the gallery as an additional display platform. In 2015, the initiative was remodelled to solely accommodate art school graduates through open call competitions four times a year.

As of 2013, Gazelli Art House started specialising in Private Sales in the secondary market, providing professional valuations for insurance, probate, trust and estates and for the current market value of single paintings or fine art collections.

In 2015, the gallery launched its Digital Art House gazell.io, an online residency for artists working in the digital and virtual reality realm, occasionally to crossover with an exhibition at the physical gallery space. As part of the gallery’s on-going commitment to art education, the gallery hosts a series of events and talks to run alongside each exhibition.
